On the first weekend of February we took a spin to Glenvar, North Donegal. Driving through picturesque towns like Ramelton and Rathmullan we followed the Lough Swilly towards our destination, The way of the cross.  It’s located only a few hundred metres off the coast road from Rathmullan to Portsalon.  The walk is sign posted at the bottom and you can actually see the crosses from the road as you drive north.  A quick assent following the bog road takes roughly 30-45 minutes to the peak.  At this point you have views of Inishowen, The Derryveagh mountains, Mulroy Bay and the famous beach that was rated in the top 10 in the world…Portsalon.

This walk is moderately dry and can be easily be done walking in runners/trainers.

Note: I have no actual photos of the crosses as I’ve been up the walk a few times and didn’t take any photos of them on this occasion, they are quite the sight though and worth the trip up.
